Our Approach

At the Horizons Project, we are helping to spur the “beautiful movement” emerging across the country: people and institutions coming together across differences to fight for our shared future and build a more just and inclusive democracy.

In a time of rising authoritarianism and political violence, we galvanize key pillars of society—across sectors and difference— to connect and harness their collective power to block harms, bridge divides, and build a democracy that works for all. Diverse, Big Tent alliances that draw on a range of different tactics— from dialogue and protest to organizing and noncooperation —are the strongest antidotes to autocracy and the proven drivers of democracy.

How We Work

We are organizers, facilitators, trainers, and strategic connectors. We bring together groups and people across ideologies, geographies, sectors, and identities who share a goal of resisting repression, bridging divides, and building a more just and inclusive democracy.

Everyone brings their unique strengths, connections, and ways of working; Horizons provides infrastructure and methodologies to bring these efforts together.

Our work blends research, training, and network weaving. We study the dynamics of authoritarianism and democratic renewal and the pillars of society that either sustain or weaken democracy. We share key findings, uplift the proven power of nonviolent collective action; and support communities experimenting with new forms of civic courage, imagination, and narrative competencies that help leaders understand how to interrupt, shift, and shape systems—not just win moments.

Who We Work With

We collaborate with a diverse range of partners around the country — people from every sector of society across generations, ideology, race, class, creed, and geography—united by a shared commitment to democracy and rule of law.  Together, we are weaving a broad, interconnected ecosystem capable of resisting authoritarianism and cultivating a democracy where everyone can thrive.
